What about my rubbish?

Waste production is a less pleasant side-effect of hosting an event. At PFM, we are always looking for the most efficient and environmentally sensitive way to assist you in providing the best solution for your setting or venue.

Not all event venues provide waste management, so please check your contract or ask your venue manager.

If your  venue does provide waste disposal, please  ask to be shown the rubbish and recycling access area at your site visit. You will need to let the catering/bar staff know where it is so that they can keep your kitchen and guest area clean. Please advise the catering/bar team if options like green waste are available, and they will separate rubbish as they go. We have a chicken feeding program, and can often remove some of the food waste.

If you are responsible for rubbish removal and cannot take care of this yourself, check with your Catering Manager for suitable options for your event.

In our experience, home party organisers often do not plan enough for the massive waste created from drinks, and from COVID-safe catering (eg, more disposable plateware, single use glasses, etc). For a decent sized home party, your wheelie bin will get a workout. Plan for a space to stack up the re-filled boxes of drink bottles/cans close to your waste area. A word of caution – if all of your waste cannot be collected all in the next rubbish collection, they can hang around for a couple of weeks, attracting bugs and smelling.

Handy tip: when unpacking your bottles for a large party, don’t pack the boxes flat as they are ideal for the bar tender/s to repack the empty bottles in, which reduces likelyhood of broken bottles. In re-packed boxes, they are also easier to handle, stack, relocate or store.
